DMK to contest 121 seats in TN

he DMK will contest 121 seats and Congress 63 under the seat sharing deal for the April 13 assembly polls, party chief M Karunanidhi announced today.
Making a simultaneous announcement of the deal here, the Tamil Nadu chief minister said he had taken away one seat each from his party, PMK and IUML to concede to Congress'' demand for 63 seats.
Under the seat sharing formula, DMK will contest 121 seats, Congress 63, PMK 30, VCK 10, KMK 7, IUML two and MMK one for the 234-member assembly.

After hard bargaining, Congress managed to extract 63 seats from its alliance partner, which had refused to budge and threatened to pull out its ministers from the UPA cabinet.

DMK allots 7 seats to Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam

The KMK's reaction comes in the wake of resentment in other outfits of the Gounder community against the party's decision to align with the DMK.
“When we highlighted the need to solve the dyeing effluent discharge problem in a holistic manner in our last Parliament election manifesto, no one listened to us and subsequently, the entire apparel industry fell into the present predicament,” KMK State treasurer K. Balasubramanian told The Hindu.
He hinted that the party would contest over Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode, Dindigul, Karur, Dharamapuri, Krishagiri and Salem districts, where the KMK had a strong hold.

DMK allots 1 seat to Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam

There is no split in the Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam and the party is intact, according to Sridhar Vandaiyar, MMK leader.

Reacting to reports in a section of media about fissures in the MMK, Mr. Vandaiyar told reporters here on Tuesday that most of the office bearers were with the MMK.

Only three had moved away, upset with the lone seat offered to the party by the DMK-led alliance.

‘forced out' of AIADMK Alliance

The Agila India Nadalum Makkal Katchi (AINMK) has been deliberately forced out of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance, its founder president and actor M. Karthik said on Tuesday.
In a statement here, Mr. Karthik said that he had handed over a letter of support to AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa early in January after the party approached him with a proposal. After keeping his party waiting for 53 days, the AIADMK's election committee changed its stand on the number of seats discussed initially, leading to uncertainty over seat-sharing. Unable to arrive at any form of respectable and reasonable agreement, the AINMK, after consultations with its district general secretaries, decided to withdraw from the AIADMK alliance.
“More accurately, we have been deliberately forced out of the alliance,” he said, adding that his party would explain its position and circumstances that led to this fallout to people in a few days.

BSP to contest from all constituencies

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will contest from all 234 Assembly constituencies in the State on its own strength, its national general secretary Suresh Mane said on Tuesday.
He told reporters that the party was looking at long-term political gains and would not limit itself to contesting from a few seats as part of an alliance.
It contested from 164 seats in the 2006 Assembly elections, polling in 1.76 per cent of votes.

DMK allots 63 seat to Congress Katchi

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K.V. Thangkabalu on Wednesday signed an agreement on sharing of seats, at Anna Arivalayam, DMK headquarters.

The Congress leader told reporters that the agreement for 63 seats was inked on the basis of the talks that the two parties concluded in New Delhi on Tuesday

The two sides, which were staring at each other with clenched fists for the past three days, embraced the agreement at a meeting here on Tuesday evening. The Congress was represented by Pranab Mukherjee, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel. Of the 63 seats, 61 will be from its kitty, while the remaining two will come from the quota of PMK and IUML.

DMK allots 1 seat to Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu on Sunday allotted one seat to the Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi, a forum floated by the Nadar community, for the April 13 assembly polls in the state.

“Both parties signed an agreement in this regard at the DMK headquarters here after talks with DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi,” Katchi organiser N.R. Dhanapalan told reporters here.

Mr. Dhanapalan said they would contest on the DMK symbol.
